At the Santa Anita mall branch, diners consistently praise the fresh, chewy house-made udon and the signature Nikutama beef-and-egg bowl, and treat the self-serve tempura, shrimp most often, as a side whose crispness depends on how freshly it was set out.
At the Glendale Galleria branch, diners like the fresh udon and quick service but rate it the lowest of the LA locations; some describe the tempura as oily or note that pieces are not always ready, and a few mention uneven service.
At the busy Sawtelle flagship, diners praise the bouncy fresh udon and note you can ask for shrimp tempura fried to order (crisp, not oily); some recurring comments mention rising prices and smaller portions. Yelp displayed a Consumer Alert on this branch’s listing when the feedback was reviewed.
At the DTLA branch inside The Bloc, diners find the udon reliably fresh and the service quick, with easier seating than Sawtelle; a recurring note is that soup or curry can arrive under-filled, especially on takeout.
At the newer San Gabriel branch in Tawa Gateway, diners give it the highest marks of the LA locations for a clean, modern space and fresh udon; the main recurring knock is that self-serve tempura can be sold out or below warm, so it is best fried to order.
Early feedback for the new Rowland Heights branch at Tawa Marketplace is positive, a spacious room, notably warm staff and well-cooked noodles, with initial comments calling the vegetable tempura crisp. The sample is small and recent, so this is preliminary.
At the Torrance branch in Village Del Amo, diners enjoy the fresh udon, umami broths and a broad build-your-own tempura selection, and several note the family-friendly outdoor play area; the recurring caveat is that rack tempura can be cold unless fried fresh.
In the limited visible review sample: Two excerpts liked the food's freshness or taste; Richard specifically praised tempura and quick, friendly service. Theodore liked the meal but preferred some other chain branches; this is one personal comparison.
In our small Yelp sample, four authors praised tempura or particular tempura selections. One author found the udon solid but not exceptional.
